Since you are already here, then there is no need to explain what does Garm and К.С.Э. mean... You remember that it means beautiful mountains, fresh air, hot sun, and hot discussions about life, love, science, and politics. It means a lot of Plov, Vodka, friends, soccer matches and singing songs. Maybe, the beautiful mountains and good friends were more important, than seismology.
Thank you for being TOGETHER with us during those happy-happy days! Many-many years have passed, there is no К.С.Э. now, but we still remember Garm, and we still remember you. We still are your friends!

Ode to Tatyana
Ode to Tatyana
On the occasion of receiving the Reid Medal of the Seismological Society of America
Welcome old friends from near and from far
Who’ve gathered to honor a seismic superstar!
So fill up your vodka and raise up your glass
We’ll toast to the inventor of the Energicheski Klass
Near the shores of the great Neva River
Was born the Soviet Union’s first seismo-diva
Tanya survived through the horrors of World War Two
To find inner strength that would carry her through
Her background in physics gave her strong research grounding
But she was lured into geophysics by Deep Seismic Sounding
She soon discovered that her search for istina and svoboda
Could be found through the study of the seismogram’s coda
Who would’a thought that poring over seismic recordings
Could create a career so deeply rewarding?
Tatyana unraveled the interplay of tectonic forces
By analyzing the spectra of seismic sources
A shared obsession with earthquakes led to love so endurin’
And a storybook seismo-romance with Vitaly Khalturin
Tatyana and Vitaly’s passion for earthquake prediction
Would end up leading to the creation of the Complex Seismological Expedition
And who could have predicted that a voyage to far-off Tajikistan
Would lead to the creation of the great Khalturin clan?
Perhaps it was the mountain air, or maybe Surkhob’s waters
That led to the miraculous arrival of five Khalturin daughters
It was a combination of intelligence, hard work, and personal charm
That made her the respected leader of the Expedition at Garm
From the sound of the P-waves and the way the surface waves dispersed
She could distinguish at Tien Shan earthquake from a Peter the First
She’s mentored young scientists from IFZ and from TISSS
And she may be the only living person who can rebuild a ChISS!
On the basis of spectrally filtered ground motions
She and Vitaly discriminated nuclear explosions
Her work in seismology has carried her to labs near and far
From Palisades and Bloomington to Dushanbe and Talgar
All her grand contributions to seismology’s creed
Have earned her the prestigious medal of Reid
Her career in seismology has gained global notoriety
And is now officially recognized by the Seismological Society
In spite of all of this glory, she’s no prima donna
To friends and family, she’s still our same sweet Tanya
Tatyana, today you can bask in the glory of today’s fine citation
While the rest of us raise our glasses in celebration
So here’s a toast to the seismic hero of Tajikistan
Our colleague, friend, mom, and babushka, Tatyana Glebovna Rautian!
Za vashe zdorovye!
